Tropical Forest:
Description: Tropical Forest are home to gigantic trees, colourful birds and a range of interesting animals. The Amazon Basin Forest is the largest Tropical Forest in the world, covering 6 million square km. Tropical Forest cover about 6-7% of the Earth’s land surface. Rainforests are the most endangered habitat on earth. Each year 140,000 square km of rainforests are destroyed.
Climate: Tropical Forest are wet places that receiving heavy rainfall either seasonally or throughout the year. They are close to the equator and get lots of sunlight and warmth. Temperatures don’t change much between night and day, ranging for 25 degrees to 30 degrees. They receive more than 200-1000cm rainfall per year. Even tho Rainforest get a lot of rainfall, humidity is high from 77% to 88% year-round.
Plants: Tropical Forest are home to half the plants on earth. Trees grow to gigantic sizes in the Tropical Forest’s. Tropical rainforests have a big variety of trees. These trees are mostly broadleaf trees and have a shorter lifespan. They usually live for 50-100 years. Some tress include mahoganies, teaks, rosewoods and okoumes. They provide valuable timber and other rainforest products like nuts, fruits, rubber and rattans. Flowers like orchids and bromeliads grow directly on trunks and larger branches.
Animals: Tropical Forest are home to half the animal species on earth. Scientists believe that there are many animals that live in Tropical Forest because they are one of the oldest eco-systems. A common characteristic about the animals that live in the Tropical Forest are that they can adapt to live in this unique environment. Many animals that live in Tropical Forest are brightly colored, sharply patterned, have loud vocalizations, and like to eat lots of fruit. About 27% of the bird species in the world live in Tropical Forest. Birds are important to rainforests because they like to eat seeds and fruit which leads them to produce droppings that grow into new plants and help the forest to survive. Insects make up the largest single group of animals that live in Tropical Forests. They include butterflies, mosquitoes, stick insects, and a lot of ants.
Where in the world they exist: There are 3 main regions of Tropical Forest; Central and South America, West and Central Africa and in South-east Asia, but they can also be found in Eastern Madagascar, Malaysia, India, New Guinea and Queensland.

Boreal Forest:
Description: Boreal Forest, also known as Taiga, are the largest terrestrial biome on earth. The Boreal Forest are filled with trees and lots of animals. The conditions in the Boreal Forest are cold and wet.
Climate: Cold winters and wet summers are natural for Boreal forest. Winter days are short and summer days are long. Fire is common for Boreal Forests but it’s good because it removes old sick trees. Rainfall is about 25-75 cm per year.
Plants: Trees are the most common plant found in Boreal Forest. The most common type of tree found in Boreal Forests is the Conifer and is also known as Evergreen. The leaves don’t fall off the trees because of the weather. The trees stay big and strong because of all the water that they receive.
Animals: Because of the cold conditions, the animals usually have thick coatings of hair to keep warm. Animals that can be found in Boreal Forest include Squirrels, Ermine, Moles, Deer, Moose, Elk, Snowshoe Hare, Insects, Birds, Grizzly Bears, Wolves, Lynxes and Wolverines.
Where in the world they exist: Boreal Forest can be found in North America, Europe, Asia and North America.
